The seventh entry into the now well-established Pride Bushido series returned to a prospects and contenders format, featuring wins by fighters such as Takanori Gomi, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Phil Baroni, and Hayato Sakurai. Gomi had clearly struck a nerve with Japanese crowds with his combination of ring panache and knockout handspeed, and was increasingly being billed as one of the promotions’ top draws. His rise would continue to the point that he soon became Pride’s main attraction.
