Pride 28 Wiki
In one of the most anticipated MMA events of the year, Pride 28 featured a heavyweight clash between Josh Barnett and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic. Though Filipovic won in somewhat deflating style after Barnett submitted due to a shoulder injury, it would whet fans’ appetites for the repeat matchups between the two at Pride 30 and at 2006’s Pride Final Conflict Absolute.
Pride 28’s show-stopper proved to be its main event, a grudge match pitting Quinton “Rampage” Jackson against Wanderlei Silva for the second time following their clash at Final Conflict 2003. This time they fought for Silva’s Middleweight Championship. In an epic rematch, the two battled back and forth through the first and second rounds, but the end result was much the same, with Silva finishing his opponent with knees from the clinch in the second round. The rematch between Silva and Jackson is remembered as one of the best fights in MMA history as well as one of its most shocking finishes, and further deepened one of the longest-lasting grudges in MMA history.
