Pride 19 Wiki Update Wiki

In the first event of the 2002 season, Pride brought out their biggest guns, with champions Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Wanderlei Silva each earning dominant finishes against Enson Inoue and Kiyoshi Tamura, respectively, while the main event saw two of the biggest superstars from the early days of the sport collide, as Ken Shamrock met Don Frye.

Although the grudge match fight between Frye and Shamrock was one of the most anticipated of the year, it proved somewhat lackluster, with both of the heavily-muscled fighters failing for the most part to meaningfully engage. A solid knockdown of “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” may have ultimately tilted Split Decision victory towards Frye.
