Velasquez vs. Silva Wiki Update Wiki

The co-main event of UFC 146 saw Antonio Silva take on Cain Velasquez in the heavyweight division.

Velasquez caught a kick and punched Silva, dropping him to the mat and following up with a barrage of punches right away before calming himself and settling in the half guard. Velasquez cut Silva with a short elbow and followed it up with more, opening the gash and drawing a lot of blood. The fight was halted to get the cut checked and the doctor allowed the match to continue. Rosenthal started the fighters on the ground and Velasquez continued his assault as Silva tried desperately to shake the blood from his eyes. Silva could not see at all as Velasquez opened him up further with another elbow. Silva rolled to his knees but Velasquez stayed on him, flattened him back out and brutalized him until he rolled on his side, forcing Rosenthal to step in.

The end came 3:36 into the first round.

Speaking with Joe Rogan following the win, Velasquez said, "I feel good. It's definitely a step in the right direction. To know what you've done in the past, get over that and get better."
