The seventh bout of the UFC on FOX 3 card saw John Dodson take on Timothy Elliott in a flyweight tilt.
Both fighters threw some wild kicks at the start of the fight that missed. Elliott shot in for a takedown in a crazy scramble ensued with both fighters ending up on their feet. Dodson landed a big body kick but Elliott countered with a pair of hooks. Elliott's aggressive pace slowed midway through the round and Dodson landed occasional stinging shots as well as a quick takedown that Elliott popped up from. An accidental eye poke to Elliott prompted a momentary halt to the contest. A still-wincing Elliott pushed forward aggressively on the restart but Dodson landed crisp counters as he came in.
Elliott attacked with a cartwheel kick in the second but Dodson dodged it and hit him with a counter kick. Elliott landed a solid pair of lefts and Dodson responded with a knee. Dodson landed a two-punch combo but Elliott refused to let him settle in. Elliott tripped Dodson and landed a flying knee as Dodson got back to his feet, but he could not keep a hold of Dodson as he shot in for a takedown. Another inadvertent illegal strike, a low blow to Elliott this time, prompted another short halt to the bout. Dodson got a takedown but Elliott landed a pair of solid knees on the stand-up.
Elliott landed some more solid knees in the clinch early in the third but wound up on his back due to a trip. Dodson allowed Elliott to stand and the two traded punches. Dodson stopped throwing lefts, seeming to favor his left hand, but he made up for it by attacking with elbows and knees, darting in and out. Elliott cracked Dodson with a big left hand and Dodson backed off before landing a knee to the ribs. Elliott continued to land with his punches as Dodson's slower pace and injured left hand caught up with him. Elliott stunned Dodson with a straight jab-cross combo in the final minute as his corner called for a takedown. Another combo landed for Elliott that took a lot of the wind out of Dodson. Elliott caught a kick and landed a series of left hooks then popped him with another combo before the final horn sounded.
The judges scored the bout 29-28 across the board for Dodson, giving him the Unanimous Decision victory.
