Caceres vs. Escovedo Wiki Update Wiki
The third bout of UFC on FOX 1 featured Cole Escovedo taking on Alex Caceres in the bantamweight division.
Caceres landed a front kick to begin, followed up by a low kick that had Escovedo backed against the fence. Caceres mixed up his striking attack and Escovedo patiently kept a defensive posture. A big left to the body landed from Caceres, followed up by an inside leg kick. A spinning back fist from Caceres had the crowd excited and Escovedo was beginning to look confused. Escovedo looked for a takedown but ended up on his own back as the fighters got back to their feet. Escovedo landed a nice combination late, but otherwise it was a round for Caceres.
Caceres avoided submission attempts from Escovedo's guard and stood back to his feet midway through the second round. Escovedo looked sluggish throughout the fight, then attempted a standing arm triangle choke before slipping off and slowly getting back to his feet. The second round also looked to be in favor of Caceres who was surprising Escovedo with the diversity of his standup attack.
Escovedo landed a takedown early in the third round, but immediately found himself in trouble from Caceres submission attempts. Escovedo escaped a triangle choke, a dangerous armbar, and then an omoplata. Escovedo landed a knee as Caceres got back to his feet, in what may have been Escovedo's best chance to find a way to finish the fight, foiled by Caceres' tricky submission game. Caceres went back to his effective striking attack, picking apart Escovedo over the next minute. Escovedo landed a takedown, took the back, and for a moment had an armbar in place. Caceres confidently escaped, got back to his feet, and rode out the last few seconds of an impressive fight.
All three judges scored the fight 30-27 in favor of the winner, Alex Caceres.
