Bastress vs. Gracie Wiki Update Wiki

Bastress and Gracie took to the cage for the final bout of the preliminary card in a middleweight affair.

Bastress came out and landed an outside leg kick then the fighters tested the range before Bastress dove in and got a full-out body slam. Gracie rolled to his knees quickly and Bastress clung to the front headlock position and fired off knees to the body. Gracie hooked a leg with on arm and tried to roll Bastress, but Bastress shook him off. Gracie got back to his feet and pushed Bastress into the fence. Gracie landed some knees to the thighs then Bastress reversed the position and fired off some knees and uppercuts of his own. Bastress attacked Gracie's knee with hammer fists then landed a nice right elbow over the top before separating. Gracie missed on a few strikes in the center of the cage and Bastress clinched him and forced him against the fence again. Bastress went back to work on the thighs with knees while Gracie fired back to the body with occasional uppercuts. A pair of hard uppercuts hit Gracie's chest then a right hand over the top. Gracie landed a knee to the chest but couldn't seem to push Bastress away. More dirty boxing from both fighters ended the round.

Both fighters came out swinging to start the second round and Gracie landed a left hook before again being slammed by Bastress. Bastress landed in side control then took Gracie's back and fired off punches and hammer fists as Gracie rolled. Gracie rolled for a kneebar but Bastress fought him off and landed some nice elbows from the half guard, one of which cut Gracie on the forehead. More hammer fists piled on the damage for Bastress but Gracie managed to attain full guard. Bastress rained down more punishment from inside Gracie's guard and the BJJ expert just looked outmatched physically. Gracie hooked a leg and went for an omaplata but Bastress rolled out of it and fired off more hammer fists to the sides of a kneeling Gracie's head. Bastress moved to a front headlock position then swiveled around to take the back before landing more punches as Gracie rolled onto his back. Bastress allowed Gracie to stand in the final seconds and landed a head kick but took several hard punches that looked to hurt him at the end of the round.

The doctor stopped the fight after the second round because of a nasty cut over Gracie's left eye, prompting boos from the crowd and a furious outburst from Gracie, who looked more than ready to continue.

Bastress takes home the TKO victory.
