Griffin vs. Fekete Wiki Update Wiki
The fourth bout of Bellator 48 featured Mark Griffin taking on Nik "The Machete" Fekete in a light heavyweight matchup.
Griffin bolted out of his corner to begin but didn't throw a strike. The fighters circled until a series of bombs from Griffin connected and had Fekete defensively backing away. Griffin landed again yet this time Fekete hit a big takedown. Griffin pressed himself up to one knee and then to his feet, and escaped from the clinch. Fekete threw a right and Griffin missed a big counter uppercut. Clinch in the center of the cage and Fekete threw a knee to the body, then pressed Griffin against the fence were he found more success with dirty boxing. Fekete wrestled Griffin almost to the ground, Griffin managed to stay on a knee for a few moments, and then was planted on his back. Fekete stood over his opponent throwing big punches until diving into half-guard. Fekete controlled the positioning on the ground for the next minute and closed out the round on top.
Griffin landed a good combination early in round two. Fekete secured a bodylock and worked his way to Griffin's back, dragging him down into the corner of the cage. Griffin did his best to break free but was slammed down to his back again with Fekete in a top-side crucifix, pounding away to Griffin's exposed face. Griffin was stuck eating short elbows to the face and while the individual blows were not thunderous, he was stuck with no prospect for escape. Referee Kevin Mulhall jumped in and called the bout due to TKO from strikes.
The official end came at 3:12 of the second round with Nik Fekete winning via TKO.
