Alcântara vs. Arantes Wiki Update Wiki

Yuri Alcantara took on Felipe Arantes in the second Facebook-broadcast bout of UFC 134: Rio.

After flurrying in the opening seconds the fighters settled into a measured pace through the first two minutes. Alcantara then landed a takedown and fought hard to pass. A good inside elbow from Alcantara watered the eyes of Arantes. Alcantara then passes, but only briefly. Arantes is cut, probably from the heavy elbow of Alcantara. The first round closes with Alcantara delivering the better damage.

Alcantara lands another takedown early in round two, and mounts soon after. Arantes now in trouble, but Alcantara looks for a topside triangle and misses. Yamasaki stands them and Arantes still looks quick and fresh, but is having trouble landing effectively. Alcantara beginning to stalk him. Another takedown from Alcantara, where they ride out the round.

Alcantara immediately seizes Arantes's back in the third after an ill-advised kick from Arantes to start the round. Arantes cleverly reverses into Alcantara's guard, and has the advantage for the first time in the fight. Arantes can't capitalize, and after another standup by Yamasaki it's Alcantara with the takedown, back in his comfort zone on top. Arantes doing a good job not taking damage, but is slowly letting the time tick away in a losing effort. Alcantara mounts in the final seconds, putting the finishing touches on an impressive UFC debut performance.

The judges score the contest 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 for the winner, Yuri Alcantara, his 12th straight win.
