Daley vs. Woodley Wiki Update Wiki

The second Showtime-televised bout of Strikeforce: Fedor vs Henderson featured Tyron "T-Wood" Woodley taking on Paul "Semtex" Daley in a welterweight contest. Daley entered the fight 1-1 in prior Strikeforce competition, while Woodley entered 6-0 in his previous fights in the organization.

Woodley landed the first punch of the fight and then caught a kick from Daley and pressed the Brit against the cage. Daley connected on a knee to the groin while he defended the takedown and the fight was paused for a grimacing Woodley to recover. Both fighters swung with big punches and missed, and then Daley nicely stuffed a double leg takedown attempt from Woodley. Woodley delivered short knees to the legs of Daley but not enough action to satisfy referee John McCarthy who broke the pair up. Daley again defended a Woodley takedown attempt. Woodley landed three solid punches to the body in the clinch but Daley held firm and didn't yield a single takedown throughout the round.

Daley broke free from another takedown attempt to start the second. Finally Woodley was able to bring the fight down after a struggle, ending up in Daley's guard. Woodley found a few openings for strikes yet was mostly ineffective in mounting offense on the ground. Referee McCarthy finally stood the pair up with under 30 seconds left in the round. Daley swung for the fences and ended up on top of Woodley in a scramble, landing a few punches as the round ended.

The fighters began swinging hard in the third until a Woodley takedown a minute in. Daley briefly looked for a kimura off of his back but let it go soon after. Daley scrambled almost to his feet midway through the round and sprawled out of a Woodley takedown. Daley landed some nice punches and delivered a few more as Woodley ended up face-first and stuck on the mat. Every time the fighters stood to their feet Daley attacked with power, yet was never able to keep away from Woodley's grappling for long enough to land a killer blow. The final minute of the fight saw Daley go for a surprising omoplata attempt, a risky move that left him on his back where the fight ended.

The fight ended with all judges scoring the bout unanimously 29-28 in favor of Tyron "T-Wood" Woodley. Speaking with Gus Johnson in the post-fight interview, Woodley commented, "He was definitely prepared for me to do a lot of takedowns, so I had to mix it up with strikes... Next fight let's do it for the world title."
