Duffy vs. Heagney Wiki Update Wiki

Duffy and Heagney kicked off the co-main event of the evening in a lightweight affair.

Heagney shot in for a takedown and landed right in a right Duffy guillotine attempt to start the first, but was able to escape and work from the top. Duffy attacked a kimura and used it to sweep Heagney and end up on top. Duffy stacked Heagney against the cage and landed some good right hands as his opponent struggled to his feet. Heagney searched for a guillotine against the cage, climbing his legs around Duffys waist and pulling him down into a tight choke, but Duffy escaped and attacked with some hard right hands. Duffy separated and looked to exchange strikes with Heagney, dropping him with a leg kick before Heagney took him down in the center of the cage.

Duffy attacked with strikes to start the second as Heagney remained tentative. After repelling a takedown attempt, Duffy started to open up on the feet with his hands and a few leg kicks. After another exchange, Heagney took Duffy down against the cage, passing to half guard after shrugging off a Duffy triangle attempt. Heagney landed some shot elbows from half guard but was unable to mount any serious offense. Duffy used his butterfly hooks to reverse Heagney and end up on top, where he passed to half guard. Duffy landed a few shots before pulling guard with a guillotine attempt, which Heagney escaped as the last few seconds evaporated.

Duffy landed a quick leg kick to start the third before shooting in for a takedown and landing in side control after a bit of a struggle. Heagney battled to his feet and attacked a single leg against the cage, but was repelled by Duffy. Duffy sank his hooks in and searched for a triangle from Heagney's back, but was repelled by the stronger fighter. The fighters separated after the grappling exchange and Duffy attacked with a variety of hard shots to the head, legs, and body. Duffy dropped a fatigued Heagney with an uppercut then backed off. Duffy attempted a hip throw, which was stopped by Heagney, but Duffy scrambled and ended up on top with Heagney pressed against the cage. Goddard called for a stand-up with 25 seconds remaining and Duffy continued to land hard shots as the final seconds ticked by in the final round.

The judges scored the bout 30-26, 29-27, and 30-27, giving Duffy the Unanimous Decision.
