Belcher vs. MacDonald Wiki Update Wiki

The first UFC Fight Night 25 bout to air on the Spike TV main card featured Alan "The Talent" Belcher taking on Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald in a middleweight contest. Belcher was returning to the UFC after a long layoff due to a detached retina, and entered the fight 7-4 in his previous UFC competition. MacDonald was 6-6 in his previous UFC fights.

Shortly into the first round MacDonald opted to pull Belcher into his guard in order to get the fight to the ground. Belcher used the position to unload with punches from top position with MacDonald looking to be in trouble from the strikes. MacDonald, cut open on his forehead, was able to hunt for a submission briefly before Belcher made his way to side mount and continued to assault his opponent. Belcher was unrelenting in his ground and pound, blasting MacDonald with punches until referee Dan Miragliotta finally had seen enough and called the fight off.

The official end came at 3:48 of the first round via verbal submission to strikes, an impressive return to action for Alan Belcher. Speaking to Joe Rogan in the post-fight interview, Belcher commented, "Man it feels awesome, I'm so emotional right now... The past 16 months has been up and down for me, I didn't know if I was ever going to fight again... I'm going to pursue that belt and I'm back baby... Guys, I'm not the same fighter I used to be, when I'm on the ground I'm just as dangerous as standing up."
