Robichaux vs. Makovsky Wiki Update Wiki

In the second televised bout of Bellator 41, bantamweight champion Zach Makovsky took on Chad Robichaux in a non-title fight. Robichaux came into the bout undefeated at 11-0 and making his Bellator debut. Makovsky came in on a six-fight win streak and undefeated at 4-0 in previous Bellator competition.

Makovsky came out and countered nicely, put Robichaux on the ground, but found himself needing to defend a guillotine choke despite being almost passed to side mount. Robichaux worked hard to hold onto the choke but Makovsky finally found a way out, back into guard and throwing punches. Robichaux popped back to his feet and came flying forward with punches and kicks, slipping onto the ground. Makovsky landed a double leg takedown, cartwheeled into side control, and lost position in a scramble. Robichaux attacked with high kicks and other wild moves, Makovsky landed a nice counter and took the fight down. Robichaux back to his feet after Makovsky went for a kimura, yet again was taken down with Makovsky in side control again.

Big double leg from Makovsky in round two, again easily to side control. For the first time Makovsky gained mount, then to Robichaux's back and with a near-fight-ending rear naked choke. Robichaux escaped with Makovsky back to side mount, knee on belly, and then quickly standing over a butt-scooting Robichaux. Makovsky to side control again, landing elbows to the head, and positionally dominating a fading Robichaux. Makovsky slick transition to an arm triangle choke with Robichaux using his jiu jitsu pedigree to help him escape from danger. Makovsky unrelenting, slammed Robichaux to the ground again and a series of punches to the face of a bleeding Robichaux. An illegal upkick from Robichaux glances off Makovsky late and draws a warning from referee Jason Herzog.

Spinning backfist from Robichaux missed early in round three, and his unorthodox moves left him off-balance a moment later and on his back. Makovsky quickly to side control and full mount with plenty of time left in the round. Robichaux turned to his back in an attempt to escape and found Makovsky on his back, pounding away with nowhere to go. Referee Herzog gave Robichaux a moment to escape and decided to call it off, with the clinical performance from Makovsky being too much to handle.
