Stevens vs. Cholish Wiki Update Wiki

In the final and featured bout of the HDNet-televised preliminary card portion of Strikeforce: Fedor vs Silva, The Ultimate Fighter veteran Marc Stevens took on John Cholish. Both fighters had competed in the New Jersey-area Ring of Combat shows earlier in their careers, yet were also making their respective Strikeforce debuts.

Cholish landed the first significant blow with a kick to the face followed up by an immediate takedown. Cholish stood over Stevens, darted in to try for a quick choke, and then released and fired a punch to Stevens's face. Stevens jumped to his feet and pushed Cholish against the fence wall. Cholish launched a pair of knees to the head from the thai clinch. Cholish stuffed a takedown and brought Stevens down to the mat after securing a bodylock. Working from side control, Cholish attempted to move to mount yet Stevens regained half guard. Stevens attempted an upkick and the round ended with Cholish standing above.

Cholish again brought the fight to the ground in round two, making Stevens work hard to avoid dangerous positions. Cholish walked Stevens to the corner and worked ground and pound against the fence, yet they were stood after referee Kevin Mulhall decided there wasn't enough action. Cholish landed a kick the mid section. Stevens took Cholish's back on the feet, pulled him to the mat, and with lightning speed Cholish rolled into a kneebar submission attempt. Stevens was able to defend for a moment, yet the slick Cholish isolated the leg and elicited the tapout as soon as he put pressure on the knee.

Speaking to Ron Kruck in the post-fight interview, Cholish commented, "It's just stuff we work on every day, my coach John Danaher and Team Renzo Gracie are really big on repetition... His leg luckily was below my hip and I was able to apply pressure and get the kneebar... Whatever Strikeforce wants to give me, I want to fight and come back and put a show on for the fans."
