Shana Olsen and Julia Budd both made their Strikeforce debuts at the Challengers 11 show. Budd, coming in with a strong muay thai background, immediately pressed the action and looked to implement her striking game. Olsen attempted a takedown yet ended up on her own back with Budd in half-guard. Budd was able to control Olsen for the majority of the round until being stood up and having a point deducted by Marcos Rosales for illegal use of elbow strikes to the head.
The second round again saw both women immediately press the action and ending up in the clinch. Budd showed her striking prowess upon separating from the clinch, landing two clean punches. Another unsuccessful takedown attempt from Olsen again resulted in Budd gaining top position. Quickly into full mount, Budd began unloading a barrage of strikes to the head with Olsen unable to find a way out, prompting the referee to call an end to the fight.
"I wanted to keep it standing more... but I took care of business down there" remarked Budd in a post-fight interview with Mauro Ranallo.
