In an unfortunate turn of events, Rashad Evans injured his knee in the training camp leading up to UFC 170. On short notice Zuffa brass found a relatively unknown newcomer named Patrick Cummins to take on decorated wrestler Daniel Cormier in the 205 lb. division.
This inexperienced opponent may actually benefit Cormier. Daniel will be able to test his skills in his new weight division after dropping to 205 lb. While the champion in the light heavyweight division Jon "Bones" Jones may be set to fight two dogfights in a row with Glover Teixeira and perhaps Alexander Gustafsson to follow. If undefeated Daniel Cormier continues to win, it's just a matter of time before he is finally given the title shot.
