Are there still people that think PRIDE FC was a good organisation?

This is a serious question. How could someone still possibly think it was a good organisation? The fighters were not tested for drugs and steroids, they constantly cheated and there was at least 1 fixed fight on every card. I'm glad Dana developed the sport so we can finally watch it on network tv, and especially FOX.

P.S.: I've been an MMA fan since 1993, back then it was called no holds barred in case some of you didn't know.

Well with this being your 2nd post and already having a -100 post score, I nominate ban.

Why do I have a -100 post score? What's that all about? Instead of writing a useless post you could at least try to refute my points.

Well before I give you a constructive response, show me a shred of evidence that fighters cheated and a fight on EVERY card was fixed. I don't like Pride and would be inclined to agree with you had you went about it another way and didn't appear to be such an obvious troll.

I'm sorry, but this is common knowledge. If you weren't around back then you can't know that stuff. Have a look at the infamous Ramage, Mark Coleman, Dan Henderson interviews, they practically admit everything I wrote in my opening post.

As far as an organization I don't know much about the things you are saying. All I know is there has been some really great Pride fights I have seen and I haven't really watched any and left thinking wow that looks like he threw the fight

There were definitely some sketchy aspects to Pride.  They definitely didn't test, and there definitely were some fixed fights.  I am glad the UFC had to become regulated to be relevant.

With that said, Pride was fucking awesome.  There were plenty of fighters that were not roiding, and the vast majority of the fights were not fixed. There were a lot of classic moments in the sports history from Pride that shouldn't be discredited just because not everything with Pride was always on the up and up.  Honestly, the blatant lack of regulation was part of what gave Pride it's charm.  I am glad things have evolved past that though.

What was there not to like about Pride?

Sure there were some quirky match-ups at times, but often that's what some fans want to see.  Fights you won't get anywhere else.

Ragardless of whether or not Pride fights were fixed, Pride is one of the reasons that MMA is so successful in today.  Pride got international recognition for MMA, because the UFC sure as hell wasn't big overseas at that time.  Also, if not for Pride, I'm not so sure we would see all of these great international fighters in the UFC, or anywhere on the main stream.

Alright, so reading your replies, all of you agree with me on PRIDE fixing fights. What I don't understand is that you guys still liked it and were entertained by those mismatches and freakshows. Those fights certainly didn't add any legitimacy to our beloved sport and we should be thankful to Dana for buying the sinking ship. I also don't get you guys playing down the steroid / drug usage, not to mention PRIDE being in bed with murderers (yakuza).

That's a legit question Gregory. What's the point in derailing this thread though? Just open your own topic and discuss it with people who care about it. UFC 1993-1997 was not as much a freak show as PRIDE was. There were no fixed fights.

And I think Gregory made a good point. All mma in those years was vastly inferior to the product we enjoy today.
