After the overwhelming success of the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter, it was an obvious decision for Spike TV and the UFC to renew their contract for a second season. The show this time around featured Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes as coaches, with tournaments contested in the welterweight and heavyweight divisions.

In addition to tournament wins by future top contender Joe Stevenson and future Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans, the live conclusion on Spike featured one of the best fights of the year when welterweight standouts Diego Sanchez and Nick Diaz battled it out for three rounds.
