Shalorus and Nurmagomedov took to the cage for a featured lightweight clash.

The fighters tested the range in the early going before Shalorus landed a nice left hook, but Nurmagomedov defended the takedown. Nurmagomedov looked a little tentative as he continuously backed away from the larger Iranian. Shalorus landed a nice inside leg kick against the cage then went to the body with a punch before Nurmagomedov dropped him with a left uppercut and followed up with some brutal ground and pound. Shalorus managed to survive the assault and recomposed himself on the ground with his opponent on top. Nurmagomedov slowed his assault and concentrated on position, moving to side control before Shalorus exploded back to his feet and the two exchanged punches. Nurmagomedov landed another flush punch in the last ten seconds as the crowd cheered.

Shalorus dug in with an inside leg kick to start the second round but Nurmagomedov dragged him down with a single leg takedown against the cage. The fighters were stood up after Shalorus tied his opponent up. Nurmagomedov landed another takedown and quickly moved to side control in the center of the cage. Nurmagomedov did not dish out any damage on top but continually searched for more dominant positions and kept Shalorus working frantically from his back. The fighters were stood again in the final minute and Shalorus landed a left hook, but Nurmagomedov continued to back out of range.

The fighters traded strikes in the third round until Nurmagomedov again dragged him to the ground, fighting off a Shalorus Guillotine attempt. Nurmagomedov fought off the choke and went to work with ground and pound from inside Shalorus's guard. The Russian moved into the full mount then sank in a Rear Naked Choke as Shalorus spun, drawing the quick tap.

The official end came 2:08 into the third round, giving Nurmagomedov the submission victory in his UFC debut.

Nurmagomedov thanked the crowd in attendance and commented on his excitement to be in the UFC. He said he devised his game plan with his father back in Russia and admitted that he was nervous prior to the fight.
