Rivera and Schafer took to the cage for the final prelim on the card in a middleweight tilt. Rivera had said before the bout that he could most likely retire following the fight, win or lose.
After some early feeling-out, Schafer got a takedown and worked from inside Schafer's half guard, but Rivera swept and got back to his feet. Schafer got the fight to the mat once again and worked some elbows to the side of the head. Rivera looked for another sweep but Schafer kept him down and continued to work short strikes. Rivera rolled Schafer at the end of the round and defended an Omaplata right before the bell.
Schafer shot in on a takedown early into the second round, but Rivera defended nicely with his back to the cage. Rivera defended a takedown and turned the tables with some brutal ground and pound against the cage. Schafer offered up little resistance as Rivera put him away in his final UFC appearance.
The end came 1:31 into the second round, giving him the TKO win.
