Charlie Brenneman vs. Daniel Roberts

Brenneman and Roberts took to the cage for a featured clash of grappling-oriented welterweights.

Brenneman landed a right hand on the first exchange but got rocked by a return counter and took Roberts down. Brenneman passed to half guard as Roberts held onto a Guillotine for a few seconds before abandoning it. Brenneman passed to side control and landed some shot punches then forced Roberts into a mounted crucifix position. Brenneman landed some hard punches in the crucifix position, but Roberts managed to buck his left arm free and continuously tried to defend himself from Brenneman's steady assault. Roberts reclaimed full guard in the final minute of the round but took come hard hooks to the ribs against the cage. Roberts got to hit feet in the final ten seconds but Brenneman easily took him back down.

Brenneman blocked a head kick to start the second round then dove in on another takedown, getting it easily and landing in half guard while fighting off another Guillotine attempt. Brenneman worked hard to pass to side control, eventually doing so and continuing his previous assault of punches. Brenneman locked in the crucifix position again and fired away, prompting Herb Dean to keep a close eye on the action. Roberts reclaimed full guard and tied Brenneman up, prompting a stand-up. Brenneman shot in for another takedown after the restart, but Roberts defended with elbows to the side of the head then used a Kimura attempt to roll onto Brenneman's back in the final 30 seconds. Roberts locked in an inverted Triangle Choke in the final 15 seconds of the round, but Brenneman managed to survive to the bell.

Brenneman shot in for a takedown and got it right away to start the third round, moving into side control much faster this time. Brenneman kept control for 2 minutes, but did little damage, prompting another stand-up. On the restart, Brenneman shot in for another takedown and got it, while a dejected-looking Roberts continued to do just enough to survive, but nothing to threaten the wrestler. Roberts latched onto a very tight Kimura at the end of the round, but again, it was too little, too late.

The judges scorecards read 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28 for Brenneman, giving him the decision victory.
