The co-main event of UFC on FOX 2 featured Chael Sonnen taking on Michael Bisping in a middleweight title eliminator bout. Bisping moved into the slot after Mark Munoz was forced to withdraw from the fight with Sonnen due to injury.
Sonnen cam eout and quickly closed the distance, immediately pressuring Bisping down and delivering some strikes. Bisping got back to his feet, motioned as if he had been poked in the eye, but the fight continued. Sonnen pressed the action again, clinching up but eating a knee as Bisping broke free. Sonnen tripped Bisping to the mat but gave Bisping an opening to stand back up. Bisping dropped down for a takedown but was denied. The pair grappled in the clinch and Bisping was effective in shutting down part of Sonnen's game. Bisping landed a few nice shots as Sonnen attempted to find a way to impose his will. A fast-paced first round that saw Bisping shut down much of Sonnen's wrestling game.
Sonnen clinched up early in the second but again Bisping was able to reverse and press Sonnen against the cage. Referee John McCarthy broke the pair apart, Sonnen shot in for a double-leg takedown, and was finally able to put Bisping down. Sonnen landed a few good strikes but again Bisping got back to his feet. Bisping roughed up Sonnen against the fence with both fighters starting to look winded by the end of the round.
Sonnen powered in to start the third and brought Bisping to the ground. Bisping attempted to get to his feet after a minute on the bottom, but Sonnen transitioned to the back and was able to sink his hooks in. Sonnen moved to full mount and worked to try and set up a submission, but Bisping regained guard and shortly after was able to wall-walk to his feet. Bisping finally succeeded in taking Sonnen down and delivered a couple of nice elbows to cap off a highly competitive fight.
The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28 in favor of the winner by unanimous decision, Chael Sonnen. Speaking to Joe Rogan in the post-fight interview, Sonnen commented, "Joe Rogan tonight is not for questions for me, I want you to tell me how it feels being just inches from greatness... when you're the greatest fighter in the world today they call you Chael Sonnen."
