The main event of Bellator 69 saw Andreas Spang take on Maiquel Falcao in the Middleweight Tournament Finals.
The fighters chose to box at the start of the bout, with Falcao keeping his hands very high out of respect for Spang's power. Spang rocked Falcao with a right hand and pounced with big punches against the cage, but the Brazilian locked up with him and turned him into the cage, recovering quickly. Falcao landed some big knees to the body against the fence and got the better of the dirt boxing then took his back and slammed him to the canvas, transitioning to side control. Spang rolled to his knees and Falcao again moved to take his back, firing off punches to the sides of the head and knees to the ribs. Spang cage-walked to his feet but Falcao peeled him off the cage and brought him back down. Spang crawled to the cage and cage-walked again, but Falcao was relentless and continued to punish him with hooks before landing an illegal knee to the head when Spang's knee was on the ground, prompting a momentary halt to the contest. The knee was a big one, and it cost Falcao a point in a first round that started poorly for him. Spang landed a good leg kick on the restart but Falcao pushed him back into the cage. Spang went for a standing Guillotine and Falcao hit a beautiful back roll sweep to get of of it. Spang landed a big spinning backfist before the bell and the two exchanges wildly.
Falcao landed a good one-two combo to start the second then got a takedown off of another Spang standing Guillotine attempt. Falcao moved to half guard and pressed his weight down, then landed some punches to the sides of the head as Spang turtled. Falcao landed big punches to the body from the position and went to the side of the head periodically. Spang cage-walked to his feet but the Brazilian suplexed him right back down, showing himself to be the much stronger fighter.
Falcao dove in for a takedown right away in the third and got it, resuming his assault from the previous round. Spang turtled up and continued to eat big shots to the body, head, and even a vicious knee to the tailbone before finally cage-walking to his feet. Falcao easily escaped another Guillotine attempt with a back roll then took Spang down against the fence and brutalized his body with GSP-style knees. Spang went for another Guillotine, this one tighter, but Falcao rolled out of it and the two stood in the final minute. Spang landed a big kick to the body but Falcao got him down again.
The judges scored the bout 29-27 across the board for Falcao, giving him the win and a shot at the Vacant Middleweight Championship against Alexander Shlemenko.
